Man United loses to Liverpool 7-0

With a resounding 7-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, Liverpool pulled to within three points of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth position.

On minute 43, Cody Gakpo scored the game's first goal by cutting inside and shooting into the far corner of David De Gea's net after staying onside to receive an attacking-splitting pass from Andy Robertson.

After shoddy defending from Luke Shaw and Casemiro, Darwin Nunez increased the hosts' lead two minutes into the second half with a close-range strike off a Harvey Elliott cross.

As United continued to struggle, Liverpool broke up an attack before Mohamed Salah raced down the wing and found Gakpo for a goal beyond De Gea.

By the hour mark, Salah put his name on the scoresheet with a strong shot from 12 yards following another breakaway by Liverpool and a deflection off a disorganized United defense.

But, Liverpool was far from finished, and Darwin earned himself a second of the game with a glancing header from a Jordan Henderson cross after United mishandled a free kick.

Further shoddy defense by Man United allowed Salah to score his second and sixth goals of the game on minute 83 before Roberto Firmino, on the same week he announced his exit from Liverpool, swiveled and scored from a narrow angle through De Gea's legs.

With a game remaining and a better goal differential than Spurs, Liverpool is in fifth place, three points behind Spurs. United, however, maintains its third-place position, nine points off of second-place Manchester City and 14 points off the lead.
