HISTORY OF ALBANIA INTRODUCTION

Albania, officially known as the Republic of Albania is located on the hot sunny coasts of the Adriatic and the Ionian sea within the Mediterranean sea with Tirana being its capital city. It covers an area of 28,748 square kilometers. It has a diverse landscape ranging from snow-capped Albanian Alps, Korab, Skanderbeg, Pindus, and Ceraunian Mountains.

WHAT DO THE PRE-HISTORIC FINDINGS SUGGEST?

The traces date back to the middle and upper Paleolithic period and were discovered in Xara, Mount Dajit near Tirana. Archaeological remains were found in the areas of Kamenica Tumulus, Konispol Cave, and Pellumbas Cave. Several Antique pieces from the Iron and Bronze ages near Tumulus Buris have been unearthed in South and Central Albania.

RELIGION AND LANGUAGE:

At present, Albania being a secular and diverse country has official religion and the people of the country enjoy the freedom of religion, belief, and conscience. Religions like Sunni Muslims, Roman Catholics, Bektashi Muslims, Evangelicals exist in Albania.The Albanian language which is currently spoken is an independent language isolated from the Indo – European family of languages. The language is believed to have descended from the Palette O-Balkan language. However, archaeological findings in the prehistoric period suggest that the country was inhabited by Indo-European people who spoke the pretty Greek language

WHAT IS ALBANIA FAMOUS FOR?

Albania is famous for fruits like lemon, oranges, figs, and most notably olives. Spices and herbs such as basil, lavender, mint, oregano, rosemary, and thyme are mostly eaten. Vegetables such as garlic, onions, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, as well as legumes of all types are grown widely in Albania.
